BENEFITS OF AVOCADOS AND WAYS TO INCLUDE THEM IN THE DIET

Avocados are exclusive in terms of their nutritional profile. Usually, fruits are known for their high carbohydrate content but avocado is a fruit which is high in fats. Avocado fruit contains fewer carbs and mainly calories are contributed from the healthy fats. It is also rich in dietary fibre making it an excellent option for people, especially on a keto diet.

  1. Avocados are rich in potassium which makes them good for keeping our blood pressure in check. It also serves as an electrolyte and helps maintain the electrolytic balance of the body.

They are especially rich in the fatty acid called oleic acid which promotes the level of good cholesterol or HDL in our body, prevents LDL cholesterol levels from rising and has also been associated with reducing inflammation.
  3. Avocados are good for our eye health as well as due to the presence of two carotenoids called lutein and zeaxanthin. These two antioxidants reduce the risk of macular degeneration and promote vision health.
  4. High dietary fibre content also makes avocados good for our gut health. Avocados support the growth of gut-friendly bacterias and enhance the absorption of nutrients from the food we eat.
  5. Avocados are also beneficial for people with joints pain, arthritis or osteoarthritis, due to its potential to reduce inflammation.
  6. Being a good source of healthy fats, avocados also favours the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A, D, E and K in our body.
