We at Steadfast Nutrition firmly believe that overall health should not be compromised or overlooked. It's important to start building healthy habits from an early age. What better way than walking, one of the easiest exercises for staying active, requiring no equipment? However, over time, this habit has decreased due to changes in lifestyle, particularly so among the downtrodden who are so busy making ends meet that they tend to neglect exercise. In August 2024, Steadfast Nutriton partnered with the Nivedita Foundation and organised a walkathon for around 100 students aged 8-16.
The aim was to encourage walking among children of all age groups, highlighting the importance of physical activity in daily routines, raising awareness about the health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle, and fostering healthy habits in children. The Niveda Foundation is an independent organisation dedicated to the betterment of society by promoting education among the underprivileged sections of society. The event took place on Sunday morning after our team visited the NGO. It commenced with ice-breaking activities, followed by a warm-up session, the Walkathon, and a discussion on the benefits of walking.
Our dedicated team inspired the students by discussing the benefits of walking and how they could easily incorporate it into their daily routines. The nutritionist highlighted how walking not only supports physical health but also enhances emotional well-being. She began her session by emphasising that the simplest way to keep moving forward is by walking. She explained that regular walking strengthens bones and reduces anxiety, noting that just 30 minutes of walking each day can relax the mind and boost positive energy and creativity. Additionally, walking increases opportunities for face-to-face social interaction and helps people connect with their neighbourhood. She also emphasised how walking helps regulate sleep patterns, essential during the growing years.
The interaction was engaging and wholesome, keeping all the students actively involved throughout the event. Steadfast Nutrition’s digital team was also present, actively participating and sharing the event on social media to raise awareness about an active lifestyle. They captured heartwarming photos of the children, making it an event to remember.
Steadfast Nutrition also provided goodie bags to all the students and instructors who attended the event. Each goodie bag had a range of goods, including our signature Complex Blue T-shirt, designed to foster a sense of community and enthusiasm. We also included the Complex Blue Diary, ideal for taking notes, reflecting, or setting objectives, and encouraging youth to journal.
The goodie bags also included a Steadfast keychain and pen set, which are useful trinkets that serve as regular reminders of the event and the value of an active lifestyle. To meet their hydration needs, particularly during active activities such as walking, we offered a mini shaker, a handy tool for having water or nutritious drinks on the move.
The thrill and excitement on the students' faces when they received their goodie bags was heartwarming. Their beaming smiles expressed both their delight on the occasion and their gratitude for the thoughtful gifts. Both teachers and students expressed thanks, and the NGO applauded the drive for its good influence.
Steadfast Nutrition is devoted to continuing this journey. We anticipate organising many more engaging and meaningful programs to engage and inspire our country's youngsters to live healthier and more active lifestyles.
