At a time when India is facing an extreme fodder shortage for cattle, Steadfast Nutrition founder Aman Puri’s donation comes as a shot in the arm for cow shelter homes. Nestled amidst the beauty of Noida, a satellite city of Delhi and a hub of animal shelters is the cow shelter home Shree Ji Gausadan, where stories of healing, belonging, and compassion flow like a gentle stream.
Aman Puri, founder of Steadfast Nutrition and director of Steadfast MediShield, divides his time between spreadsheets, boardroom meetings, and thinking about his responsibilities as a human.
Mr Aman Puri’s donation was met with gratitude from the staff and volunteers at the cow shelter. The Steadfast Nutrition founder said he was motivated to donate because of his love for animals and after learning about the plight of cow shelters in India. “I read an article about how cow shelters are struggling to feed the animals in their care. I knew I had to do something to help. I am a big believer in animal welfare and don’t like animals going hungry.”
It was our week off when got the message from Mr Puri to make a visit to gaushala and donate food purchased from gaushala itself.
It was Jan 15, 2024, one of the national holidays of India – popularly known as Makar Sankranti/Pongal/Magh Bihu. And what better way to celebrate than feeding cows – considered sacred in India – on the auspicious occasion?
We entered the premises where the scent of golden sand and cows made us feel like we had entered the countryside. We acquired fodder for the cattle and packed it in 18 bags comprising grass, chaff, sorghum, jaggery, carrot, and oil cake. We had more members with us, experts in feeding cows, who taught us to add the required quantity and mix them well.
And then with the help of the cycle cart, we started distributing the fodder to the cattle’s sheds, where we were mobbed by a herd and if the cowshed’s caretaker had not come with us, we would not have been able to walk even a step.
We know and understand that donation does not only mean feeding animals but also following the veterinarians’ and cattlemen’s advice regarding overfeeding and its effects. So we fed them accordingly and safely.
Who wants to leave this heaven? But had to – we bid goodbye to these adorable and majestic souls then we left the place full of tranquility and love and headed back towards the office.
Our entire team was living those moments by closing their eyes and remembering the Moo!
